Tours of buildings, a construction workroom, and other activities were prepared for families with children as part of the accompanying program. In total, the festival was visited by roughly 1,000 children.
Special Tours of Buildings
The festival offered ten fun guided tours to families with children along with the creative Worksheets for Little Architects, which aim to disclose architectural terms and topics to children in a fun way. There was unprecedented interest in visiting this year’s new attraction – the Lobkowicz Palace in Malá Strana, including its garden, which houses the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Children could also visit the Czech Yacht Club’s boathouse in Podolí. The Hlávka Student Dormitory, designed by architect Josef Fanta on the site of the former St. Wenceslas Prison, was also open.
Moreover, families with children could head to the heart of the Old Town and explore one of the oldest churches there – the Church of St. Anne. Printing presses, a graphic design studio, and other workshops were open to visitors at the recently renovated Podkovářská Premises in Vysočany, which formerly served as a paint factory. A tour of the Trmal Villa in Strašnice took visitors of all ages through every room in the house, which was designed by the famous Czech architect Jan Kotěra. Stunning views were available from the roof of Quadrio. Visitors could also venture inside the Great Strahov Stadium.
Construction Workroom
Similarly to the festival’s past editions, families with children could visit a free construction workroom,set up in collaboration with our partner Czech RepuBRICK. The workroom was open all weekend at the festival’s information center at Hybernská Campus.
Programs for Children in the Open Buildings
As part of the accompanying program, children were invited to tour the Kunsthalle Praha, where they explored interesting spots and hidden details of the building. At the Prague 12 Town Hall, architects from the LOXIA studio gave an interactive lecture. Historic locomotives were on display over the weekend at the Masaryk Station motive power depot, and, as has become tradition, a traffic-themed playground was set up for children in front of the building of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic. The Mint Living Praha Vysočanský Mlýn residential project organized garden games. At the Třebešín Velodrome, special track bikes and helmets were once again available for rent, with the opportunity to take a ride on the track. The Letná Fair took place on Sunday near the Letná Water Tower. At the Karlín Palace, the company Albi organized a magical storytime and a creative corner for families with children. For elementary school students in the first grade, the National Theater organized an environmental program about the life of bees and urban beekeeping.
