Themes, Anniversaries & News

The motto of this year’s festival is Past Heritage, Future Challenges. A notable theme of this year is a series of discussions titled Schools for Future Generations, which is also reflected in the weekend program that features a number of innovative projects of school buildings. We are commemorating several railway anniversaries, e.g. the arrival of the first train to Prague at the motive power depot at Masaryk Railway Station. The program features over 30 new buildings, including retirement homes for the first time, such as Nová slunečnice and Chodov Retirement Home, both designed by Jan Línek and Vlado Milunić, and also Palata Home. In addition, you can visit the embassy of Lithuania and Luxembourg as well as many university dormitories, such as Budeč, Jednota, or Krystal Center. The program also includes areas of Prague Castle and the Drama Club designed by Milada Petříková-Pavlíková, the first female architecture graduate in Czechoslovakia.

We have put together a list of carefully selected buildings that represent Prague’s architectural diversity as well as this year’s must-see places. You can visit several gems of early 20th century architecture, modern schools, or European embassies and even Prague Castle. Our selection will take you to the heart of Prague as well as other city districts, such as Holešovice, Smíchov, or Suchdol. Most of the buildings in the list offer English tours.
