WALKING TOUR IN ENGLISH

The Petschek Family Houses – How the Wealthy Lived / ENGLISH

Sunday, November 17, 2024; 3.00 p.m.

This walking tour through the villa district in Bubeneč will take you to the opulent residences of one of the wealthiest families in the era of the First Czechoslovak Republic. The Petschek family owned over ten houses in Bubeneč, some of them designed by their favorite architect Max Spielmann. You will learn where the individual members of the Petschek family lived as well as a number of other interesting facts about them, e.g. their marriage strategy across generations or how the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic compensated them for the post-war confiscation of their property in the 1980s. We will also show you a secret path leading near the famous Villa Bianca by architect Jan Kotěra. Finally, we will take a look inside today’s Museum of Literature, located in the villa of Marianne Gellert-Petschek.
