American Love Stories / ENGLISH

Sunday, November 5, 2023; 2.00 pm

In the past, Prague has been the scene of dramatic and often unbelievable stories connected with the names of Americans who had strong ties to the capital city. This walking tour of one of the oldest parts of Prague will focus on the places where the American and Czech worlds collided as well as the romantic relationships that affected the fates of important figures of the turbulent 20th century.

In particular, we will remember women such as writer Marcia Davenport, politician Madeleine Albright, art collector Meda Mládková, wife of the first Czechoslovak president Charlotte Garrigue Masaryk, or actress and ambassador Shirley Temple Black. We will also talk about the legendary millionaire couple – Alfred Stern and his wife Martha (née Dodd), who spent their last years in Prague after being accused of Soviet espionage and having to flee the US. Come discover the fascinating love stories where Prague plays a starring role!
